PRP for Hair Restoration

An emerging treatment for thinning hair in men and women, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an office based treatment to help stimulate the activity of the hair follicles and promote new hair growth.  Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP) stimulates healing and rejuvenation, resulting in tissue growth, and new blood vessel formation.  PRP is derived from a sample of the patient’s own blood. An FDA approved technique is then used to concentrate blood platelets and blood serum.  The concentrated PRP is then injected into the target tissue, delivering a high concentration of growth factors.

Several scientific articles have demonstrated the improvement in hair count, hair thickness and growth phase using PRP.

PRP for Hair Restoration is a procedure that combines the PRP with biomatrix nutrients injected into the full scalp, or localized areas, such as the eyebrows or beard.  PRP stimulates existing hair follicles compared to hair transplants which borrows hair from more stable areas at the back of the head and puts them in areas where thinning has already occurred.

  • Minimal recovery time.
  • Improves hair density.
  • Reduction of bald or thinning areas.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  How many PRP treatments are needed for hair growth?

A:  It is normally recommended that three PRP procedures are carried out as part of the initial treatment. These sessions usually take place at four to six-week intervals. After this initial round of treatment is completed, patients will require a single follow-up session every four to six months to maintain the positive effects of the treatment.

Q:  What are the side effects?

A:  There are no significant side effects. Some patients do experience discomfort in the immediate aftermath of the procedure, although most people do not report suffering any pain. It is possible that the procedure may cause some swelling and tenderness of the scalp and forehead, but this should subside within three to five days.  Discomfort can be managed with ibuprofen or as Arnica Montana and/or Boswellia.

Q:  When can I expect to see results?

A:  You will start seeing beneficial results in about 6 months.
